The City of Union is considered the geographical center of Boone County and provides a semi-rural haven from the bustle of urban life, yet offers easy access to anything an urbanite might desire.
I am proud of our city, and would like to share it with you. Located only 3 miles from Florence Mall, we are 18 miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio via Interstate Highways 71/75, and 10 miles from the Cincinnati/Northern KY International Airpoprt (CVG). It's a place where life is good, taxes are low, and public schools are top-notch.
We are very proud of Big Bone State Park located in the heart of Union, famous for its history of salt licks, great mammoth artifacts, and the history of Mary Engles' capture by the Shawnee and her infamous escape from Big Bone back to her home in Virginia. Lewis and Clark visited the Big Bone area many times in their adventures along the Ohio River to collect mammoth artifacts.
The Boone County YMCA, located in Boone Woods Park, is a brand new service to the community and a popular attraction here in Boone County offering indoor/outdoor swimming, exercise classes, dancing classes, basketball, you name it.
For a little humor (we elect a dog to run as our town mayor in Rabbit Hash) and a chance to revisit another era of Boone County history, there is the Rabbit Hash General Store which has been in full operation since 1831. The town has been used several times for movies such as "Huck Finn" and even boasts its own movie, "Rabbit Hash - Center of the Universe", a whimsical look at the town and its people. Relive the good old days with an old fashioned barn dance, Old Timer's Day, or just visit the store for a souvenir.
Union is close to many other attractions just across the River in Cincinnati, Ohio including numerous museums, the Cincinnati Reds Stadium, The Underground Railroad Museum, Paramount Kings Island and so much more. Nearby Newport, Kentucky offers Newport on the Levee with upscale restaurants and entertainment as well as the Newport Aquarium. In Indiana, there are three gambling casinos within easy driving distance.
